This Code of Conduct is intended to protect the health and safety of all participants by supporting concussion awareness, prevention, identification, and proper management in accordance with Rowan’s Law (Ontario).
1. Commitment to Safety
All participants share responsibility for creating a safe soccer environment. Concussions are serious brain injuries and must be treated with caution and care.
2. Education & Awareness
- Parents/Guardians and Athletes must review concussion awareness resources annually as required under Rowan’s Law.
- Coaches, Team Officials, and Match Officials must remain informed about concussion signs, symptoms, and management protocols.
3. Recognition & Reporting
- Athletes must report symptoms of a concussion to a coach, official, parent/guardian, or medical professional immediately.
- Parents/Guardians must inform the organization if their child is diagnosed with or suspected of having a concussion.
- Coaches and Officials must take all reports and visible signs of concussion seriously.
4. Removal from Sport
- Any athlete suspected of having a concussion must be immediately removed from play or practice.
- An athlete removed due to suspected concussion must not return to sport on the same day, regardless of symptom resolution.
5. Medical Clearance & Return to Sport
- Athletes may only return to training or competition after completing the organization’s Return-to-Sport Protocol and receiving appropriate medical clearance, where required.
- No pressure may be placed on an athlete to return to play before they are medically ready.
6. Behaviour Expectations
- Athletes, parents/guardians, coaches, and officials must not encourage unsafe play or risk-taking behaviors.
- Intimidation, pressure, or dismissal of concussion symptoms is strictly prohibited.
- Fair play, respect for opponents, and adherence to the rules of soccer are expected at all times.
7. Compliance
- Failure to comply with this Code of Conduct or with concussion protocols may result in disciplinary action, including removal from activities, suspension, or further consequences as determined by the organization.
