Responsible Coaching Movement

The Responsible Coaching Movement (RCM) is a call to action for sport organizations, parents, and coaches to enact responsible coaching across Canada – on and off the field of play.

Players, Parents, Coaches and Officials

Canada Soccer Rule of Two

The goal of the Rule of Two is to ensure all interactions and communications are open, observable, and justifiable. Its purpose is to protect participants (especially minors) and coaches in potentially vulnerable situations by ensuring that a coach is never alone with an athlete. There may be exceptions for emergency situations. One–on– one interactions between a coach and an athlete, without another individual present, must be avoided in all circumstances except medical emergencies.

What is the Responsible Coaching Movement (RCM)?

Established by the Coaching Association of Canada and the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport, the RCM invites all coaches and sport organizations to learn and apply consistent safety principles. It includes three distinct pillars, each serving to create a sport environment that is Safe, Smart, and Secure.

The RCM Pillars

  1. Rule of Two
  2. Background Screening
  3. Ethics Training
